Amelia Keeps Us in Stitches!

On Saturday we had a bit of a scare. Amelia was with Marisol and Joel at our friend Margarita's house for Spanish ladies Bible study when they heard a thump. Amelia had fallen on the tile floor and had a half-inch cut on her chin. Small pieces chipped off two of her teeth as well. Marisol called me, and we decided to take her to the Doctor's Clinic where they work half day on Saturdays. Well, I rushed over to PIU to borrow one of the school cars because Mari and kids had the car with them. She had taken our friend Lisa, MK from Spain, with her, so Lisa drove while Marisol was holding the gauze on Amelia's chin. Joel was also a great help. Amelia didn't cry at all, which had us a bit unnerved.
The screening nurse for walk-ins said that it was impossible for Dr. Perez to see her, so Marisol (they arrived at the clinic before I did) asked to advise Dr. Perez that we were there. We have become friends, he and his wife (also a doctor) support the college, and he agreed to take us. We had to wait a while, but it was worth the wait rather than be seen by total strangers at the emergency room. (It brought back memories of Joel's head injury on 1-1-09 during Mom and Dad's visit).
Joel stayed with Lisa in the waiting room while Mari and I went inside with Amelia. Dr. Perez was so kind to Amelia. He explained to her everything that he was going to do and did a bit of what he called "medical hypnosis," asking Amelia to close her eyes and imagine that she was swimming, looking at the "beautiful fish God created," the coral, treasure chest, etc. When she opened her eyes he reminded her to close her eyes and keep swimming, breathing in through her nose and out through her mouth as if she were blowing out a candle. I watched as he gave Amelia two stitches. Again, no tears, not during the numbing shot or the stitches. Afterwards Dr. Perez asked Amelia if she found the treasure chest. She said yes, so he told her to open it up, and he asked what was in it. He told her, "God's blessings." Yes indeed. That's how we felt about the whole experience, how God worked everything out. And that's not the end of the story.
Dr. Perez did not charge us one penny for everything he did for us. I still can't believe how God worked every detail of the whole experience out. The only thing I can say in summary is "GOD IS SO GOOD." No other way to describe it. She will have the stiches for a week or so. She has to keep it dry for 48 hours; then she can resume her normal activities. Never a dull moment at the Guam Farnsworth home!!! STAY TUNED for the next adventure.

I'm thankful that Amelia is ok- I'll ask her to show me her cool scar when she gets the bandage removed! What a huge blessing from the doctor as well. God's looking after you all =)
Hi Jen, thanks for your kind wishes. It was great to see you last night. Hope your hike went well.
